dc.description.abstract | the award of the Degree of Master of Medicine (M. Med) of the University of Dar es Salaam. It consists of three parts. Part One: consists of ten Obstetrical conditions encountered in day to day practice. Part Two: comprises of ten Gynecological conditions encountered in day to day practice. To the author's best capability, the management of the conditions was done to acceptable standards and availability of facilities. A short commentary is given regarding one aspect of each case. Part Three: Is a research paper on postpartum intrauterine device (IUD) insertion at Muhimbili Medical Centre. This study was undertaken in order to provide our women with a reliable contraceptive method at the time of high motivation. Poor infrastructure facilities make many women fail to utilize family planning facilities. Postpartum IUD is expected to be a breakthrough in low family planing service utilization in this country. A comparison of complications with interval intrauterine device insertions was done in this study. The results of the study showed that postpartum IUD insertions were as safe, effective and acceptable as interval IUD insertions. The author recommends this one time reversible method of contraception as a solution to the problem of low contraceptive prevalence rates in the country. ~ | en_GB |
