dc.description.abstract The main objective of this study 'was to determine the point prevalence of hypertension and prevalence of relevant risk factors in adult males and females of Sayu Sayu Village in Shinyanga Region, Tanzania. A survey of 773 individuals revealed a point prevalence of 6.2% The hypertensives included all persons with diastolic blood pressure ≥95 mm Hg and or systolic blood pressure ≥160 mm Hg. The study showed a significant increase in hypertension with increasing age, but there was no overall sex difference in its prevalence. The most important risk factors found in the study population were age, obesity, glycosuria, tobacco, and alcohol usage. en_GB
