Abstract:
This dissertation conforms to the requirements of the
award of Master of Medicine degree in Surgery of the
University of Dar-es-Salaam. It consists of ten case
studies on common problems in whose management the
author has taken active participation. It is divided
into four parts.
Part one is on general surgical problems and this
includes Pseudocysts of the Pancreas, Rectal Prolapse,
Surgical Cholestasis and Surgical manifestations of
AIDS and HIV infection.
Part two consists of Thoracic Surgical problems which
include Chest Injuries, Thoracic Empyema and
Pericardial Effusion.
Part three deals with Urology and in this section
Carcinoma of the Urinary Bladder is discussed.
Part four deals with Orthopaedics and Trauma in which
ankle fracture dislocations and fractures of the spine
are discussed.
In each topic a case is presented in detail, the rest
of the cases are summarized, relevant literature is
reviewed and the topic is discussed with particular
references to observations made at Muhimbili Medical
Centre.
